The Korea International cooperation agency, through the KOICA scholarship programme, is offering a scholarship for 24 master’s programs and 2 doctorate programs to future leaders in developing countries.
This scholarship programme is available to applicants in 62 selected DAC official development assistance countries. The list of countries can be found later in this article.
Applicants who get this scholarship will get the following;
- All expenses paid plane ticket.
- Tuition fees at selected University fully paid.
- Accommodation in Korea will be paid for.
- Monthly allowance of up to KRW 999,000.
- Insurance.
Aims and Objectives
The KOICA scholarship programme is designed to train future leaders in developing countries to contribute to the socio-economic development in their home countries after they are done with the programme.
During the programme, students learn about Korea’s development experiences, and the strategies Korea used to become an economic behemoth.
The idea is for students to learn and replicate these things in their home countries.
KOICA also aims to promote amicable, cooperative relationships and mutual exchanges with developing countries by rendering support for their socioeconomic development.
Qualifications
Prospective students must meet the following requirements to be considered for the scholarship;
- Applicants must be a citizen from the list of approved countries.
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
- Be officially nominated by their government.
- Must be a government employee with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in their field of study.
- Applicants affiliated with an international NGO are also eligible to apply. However, such applicants can only apply for the KOICA AJOU’s master’s degree programme in civil society leadership.
- Applicants must be under the age of 40.
- Must be fluent in oral or written English as classes, academic reports and thesis will be done in English.
- Applicants who have participated in a KOICA scholarship or any Korean Government scholarship before are not eligible to apply.
- Any past participant who was withdrawn from the programme is not eligible.
- Interested applicants must also meet the requirements of their choice of Korean University.

How to Apply for the KOICA Scholarship Programme
Before you proceed, note that you must meet the requirements.
Follow the steps below to apply for this scholarship;
Step 1: Get a Recommendation Letter from your Government
The government of your home country must recommend you for this scholarship. If you are from Nigeria, you can write to the Nigerian ministry of Education.
Step 2: Choose a Course and University
Just like many other scholarships, you have to also apply to your choice University in the host country and course while applying for the scholarship.
Choose from the list of available Universities and courses, then visit the KOICA CIAT website to see how to apply for each University.
Step 3: Download the Application form
The next step is to download the KOICA scholarship application form. Read the instructions on the form properly.
Open the form with a word processing software like Microsoft word and fill it accordingly. You are not allowed to fill most parts of the form with a pen except for your signatures.
Fill out the form in the English language.
After filling, print the form out and sign in the required places.
Step 4: Submit the form with supporting document
If you have completed the steps above, you can submit the KOICA application form with other supporting documents to the regional KOICA office or relevant government office.
