Wageningen University Africa Scholarship Programme [2023]
The Wageningen University and Research, Netherland’s Africa scholarship programme is now open to African students who are willing to pursue a master’s degree at the University.
This scholarship is open to citizens of 54 African countries.
Applicants who are awarded this scholarship will get the following;
- Tuition fee for 24 months.
- Living allowance for 24 months.
- Visa costs and health insurance.
- Travel expenses to and fro Wageningen.
- A budget for one seminar in Europe.
Aims and Objectives
Wageningen University and Research is a collaboration between Wageningen University and the Wageningen Research foundation. Its mission is to explore the potential of nature and to improve the quality of life, not only in the Netherlands but across the world.
The University, through the Wageningen Africa scholarship programme, hopes to support capacity building in Africa.
Scholarship Requirements
- Applicants must be citizens of any African country.
- Must be an exceptional student with a proven track record. A grade point average (GPA) of at least 80% is required.
- Applicants must have applied for a master’s degree at Wageningen University before the deadline.
How to Apply for the Wageningen University Africa Scholarship Programme
The selection process for this scholarship is based on an invitation from Wageningen University and Research. You will be invited to the scholarship programme by the University if you qualify.
Follow the steps below to apply for the scholarship programme.
Step 1: Apply for a Master’s Programme at Wageningen University
The University has 45 courses in its master’s programmes. Pick a course from the list of courses and apply.

Click on create account without DigiD.
Follow the direction on the website to create an account.
Note that you will need an international passport to complete the studielink signup process.
Once you are done with creating an account, log in to the portal and upload the required documents in the application portal Osiris.
As an African applying for this scholarship, you must do an English proficiency test like IELTS except you are a South African citizen.
After uploading your documents, wait for a final decision from the University.
If your application was denied, you can file for an appeal by contacting the Wageningen University admissions office.
You must complete your master’s application on or before February 1st, 2023.
Step 2: Wait for an Invitation Email
All applicants who applied for the master’s programme will be assessed with regard to the WUR African scholarship programme. Applicants who pass the assessment will receive an invitation mail on March 20, 2023.
Applicants who did not receive this message were not selected for the programme.
Step 3: Complete and Submit the Assignment
Candidates who were selected will receive an assignment via email. This assignment needs to be completed and submitted on or before April 3, 2023.
Step 4: Online Interview
The selection committee will assess the received assignments, hence, a smaller number of candidates will be invited for an online interview which will be held via Skype on April 20 and April 28, 2023.
Candidates who will proceed to the online interview will get a mail from the University on April 17, 2023.
Step 5: Wait for the Final Results
On May 15, 2023, candidates who participated in the online interview will receive the results in their email.
The results are of three categories;
- Positive and an ASP scholarship will be granted;
- Positive but the candidate will be placed on a waiting list;
- Negative, meaning that no ASP scholarship will be granted.
Candidates who win this scholarship will receive further information on the next action to take via email.
