The Swansea University PhD scholarship for Materials Engineering is scheduled to close on the 26th of August 2022.

This scholarship is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) DTP in collaboration with Johnson Matthey.

Description

The aim of this project by its partners above is to use the expertise of the Swansea group in the generation of size-selected and composition-controlled nanoparticles by cluster beam methods. This method will be exploited to produce new model catalysts and combined with Johnson Matthey’s experience in catalytic chemistry, advanced imaging and industrial exploitation.

Funding

Successful applicants will full tuition fees will be covered by the scholarship in addition to an annual stipend of £16,062. Additional research expenses will also be paid for by the funding providers.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must have an undergraduate degree from 2.1 level and above or a master’s degree with merit in either Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or other similar science disciplines.

Applicants from outside the United Kingdom must write an IELTS test with an overall mark of 6.5 (each individual component must have at least a 5.5 score).

Please note that you must take an IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge exam even if you are from an English-speaking country.

Previous English test exams that were done within a period of 2 years will be considered.

Candidates that sat for an English test outside the 2 years validity period may still be considered in any of the following situations;

  1. If you have worked in an English-speaking country for a significant period of time after writing the English test.
  2. Have completed 1 year of study at a secondary, undergraduate, or postgraduate level through the English language within 10 years of the programme start date.
  3. If you have worked in an English-speaking country for a significant period after completing the English test or qualification. You may be exempted from writing another test if you provide a reference letter from your employer confirming that you have worked at a capacity in the English language. Your employer must fill out this form.

This is the first step of the application process. Visit the Swansea online application portal to begin.

Note that you can save your application and continue anytime you want. However, you must submit the application before the deadline.

On getting to the application page, you have to search for “Materials Engineering” in the search box to produce results for the available courses/programmes with similar names.

From the list of results, select Materials Engineering, Ph.D./M.Phil.

Step 4: Confirm Course and Start Application

Choose the course duration from the list of options. For this instance, we will select “Materials Engineering, Ph.D. – Full – time – 3 – Year – October.

Step 5: Fill the form with your Details

In this part, you have to fill in your correct details. You will need to enter the following details;

  1. Personal details.
  2. Academic qualifications.
  3. Work experience.
  4. Language.
  5. Personal statement.
  6. References.
  7. Funding.

While filling the funding section, you will be asked if you are funding your studies personally, select no from the option.

You will also be asked for the name of the institution providing funds for your studies. In this option, you need to enter “RS144 – PhD Materials Eng”.

When you are done filling in the necessary details, proceed to section 9 and tick the declaration box before you submit.

Note that multiple applications for the Swansea University PhD scholarship for Materials Engineering by an individual will not be accepted.
