The JAMB profile code is a unique 10-digit number that is assigned to candidates during the JAMB UTME registration.
In this article, you will learn about how to get the JAMB profile code and how to retrieve it if you need it but cannot find it.
What is the JAMB Profile Code?
The JAMB profile code is part of the unique numbers that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board uses to identify candidates during UTME registrations. JAMB UTME candidates must generate this code before they can successfully register for the UTME exams in a given year.
The profile code is needed when a UTME candidate needs to perform specific tasks at a JAMB CBT centre.
Important Information About the JAMB Profile Code
Here is some vital information you need to know about the JAMB profile code. You need this information to avoid any mistakes.
1. You Can Use your Previous Profile Code
If you have written JAMB before, you do not need to generate a new profile code. You can proceed with your JAMB UTME registration with your old profile code.
2. JAMB Profile Code Does not Change
JAMB profile codes are linked to phone numbers therefore, if you try to use a phone number that has been used to generate a profile code before, you will get the same code as the previous one or you might get an error message.
Perhaps you misplaced your previous profile code, you can use another SIM card to generate a new one.
3. Use your Phone Number
Use a phone number registered in your name and National Identification number to generate your JAMB profile code. This is necessary because you may need this number to access some things on the JAMB portal.
There have been situations where candidates use a friend or relative’s phone number and they cannot retrieve this number if it goes missing.
Using a phone number registered in your name makes it easy to retrieve if the phone number goes missing.
How to Get the JAMB Profile Code
If you are registering for the JAMB UTME exam, generating a profile code is one of the first steps you need to take. In this part of the article, you will learn how to generate a JAMB profile code for your UTME registration.
Follow the steps below;
Step 1: Get your National Identification Number
You will need a National Identification Number to generate a JAMB profile code. If you are yet to register for your NIN, you should read our article on how to register for NIN in Nigeria.
Also, after registering for your NIN, you need to confirm if your NIN has been activated. If your National Identification number has not been activated, you will not be able to generate a JAMB profile code.

You will need a SIM card not used before to generate a JAMB profile code. We recommend that you use a SIM card that is registered with your name and NIN.
Perhaps you do not have a SIM card due to some reasons, you can use your parent’s SIM card.
Step 3: Send a Text Message to JAMB USSD Code
From your mobile phone, send a text message to 55019 or 66019 in this format “NIN” followed by a space, then type your NIN number and send. E.g. NIN 1234567890. See the image below.
Note that you must have at least ₦50 airtime on your SIM to send this message.
If this is successful, your JAMB profile code will be sent to you via SMS.
