Lagos State University does not conduct Post-UTME exams. Instead, they calculate each candidate’s Olevel grades and JAMB results using a formula. The result from this calculation will be compared with the cut-off marks to determine whether a candidate will be admitted.

In this article, you will learn how to calculate the LASU aggregate score and what to do after knowing your score.

Steps to Calculate LASU Aggregate Score

The two things you need to calculate your LASU aggregate score are your JAMB score and O’Level grades for five relevant subjects.

Once you have these two in place, you can go ahead to calculate your LASU aggregate score using the steps below;

Step 1: Divide your JAMB score by 8

The first step is to divide your JAMB score by 8.

If you do not know your JAMB score, you can check this article on how to check your JAMB score online.

We love to use illustrations so that you can understand better, so we will use an imaginary student named Omotayo to explain to you.

If Omotayo scored 213 in JAMB and he chose LASU as his first choice, to get his LASU aggregate score, he needs to divide 213 by 8 which will give him 26.63.

Step 2: Check the Required Subjects for your Course

Only 5 subjects from your WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB results will be calculated

To know the subjects that will be graded, check for the O’Level subject combination of each course.

Armed with this knowledge, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Calculate the Olevel Grades Using LASU Grading System

Each O’level grade has a score attached to it. The scores can be found below;

A1: 10 marks

A2/B2: 9 marks

A3/B3: 8 marks

C4: 7 marks

C5: 6 marks

C6: 5 marks

Omotayo is applying for Computer Science at Lagos State University and he attempted 9 subjects during his senior secondary certificate examination (SSCE). When his result was released, he had the following grades;

Advertisements
  1. Mathematics: B3
  2. English Language: A1
  3. Physics: B2
  4. Chemistry: C5
  5. Economics: C6
  6. Geography: A1
  7. Computer studies: B3
  8. Further Mathematics: C4
  9. Yoruba Language: C4

To study Computer Science at LASU, Omotayo needs just 5 subjects out of the 9 he did in his SSCE examination. The SSCE requirement for Computer Science at LASU is;

  1. Mathematics
  2. English Language
  3. Physics
  4. Chemistry
  5. And any other science subject.

Using Omotayo’s SSCE result, we will get the following;

  1. Mathematics B3: 8 marks
  2. English Language A1: 10 marks
  3. Physics B2: 9 marks
  4. Chemistry C5: 6 marks
  5. Geography A1: 10 marks

Note: From the requirement, Omotayo can pick any science subject as the 5th subject. Further Mathematics, Computer studies and Geography are all science subjects but he scored higher in Geography so he has to pick Geography to increase his LASU aggregate score.

Therefore, his total O’level mark would be 43.

The highest score you can get in this category is 50; that is if you scored A1 in the whole 5 subjects.

Step 4: Add Both Scores Together

Calculate the score we got after dividing his JAMB score by 8 with the score from the Olevel grades.

26.63 + 43 = 69.63

Omotayo’s LASU aggregate score will be 69.63

If your LASU screening score (aggregate score also called screening score) is high enough, all you need to do is to make sure you meet the other LASU Post-UTME requirements while you hope to get admitted.

Perhaps you scored low, you can enrol for the LASU Part-time programme, the LASU JUPEB programme or you can check other schools with low competition or buy another JAMB form and try to score higher.

      LASU does not release departmental cut off marks. The idea is to score as high as possible.
